70-Years of RMMRA Competition was Locked into the Record Books on Sat, Nov 7, 2009 by Ade Butler, who has been on the scene since the first Midget race in Denver in 1937, and a house-full of Award Winners, their friends, families, and fans. Keith Rauch was presented with his third RMMRA Championship, Tony Rossi with his fourth Owner’s Title, Brian Postle with a long-awaited Rookie-of-the-Year award plus Sportsmanship Award, with Frank Peterson, Julee Jamison, Mike Lucero, Bill Taylor, Mark Matejka, and many others, collecting hardware and gift prizes. Incoming President, Greg Schaefer gave enticing glimpses of the future, as outgoing 3-term President, Boysen Loesch received much appreciated thank-you mementos. Young and old alike were entertained by the humor and insight of Butler, whose memories include being befriended by Amelia Aerhardt, in addition to numerous racing luminaries up to the present time, as well as stories and facts of RMMRA’s seventy years from 7-time President, Mitch Miller, 1950 Champion, Sonny Coleman, and multi-time Owner Champion, Peterson. A great 70 years and a great evening, not likely ever forgotten. Thanks to All, and on to 2010 and 70 more!! shown: Keith with car owners Peterson and Todd Henry and Loesch with Champions Rauch and Rossi in photos by club stalwarts Jim Barr and Carol McGraw

Greg Schaefer will be President of RMMRA in 2010, leading an all-new Board of Directors which will include our 2009 Champion Driver, Keith Rauch, as well as Driver Chris Sheil, Owner Ewen Rees, and Past President, Andy Mason. Members voted their new Officers in from a healthy slate of 10 total candidates on the various ballots, and then proceeded to vote for Rookie of the Year, Sportsman, and other 2009 Awards by Vote. Those awards will be made at the annual Awards Party, Sat, Nov 7. A thorough and constructive discussion preceeded the voting, and included examination of RMMRA options and members' preferences for next year's schedule. The new President is now tasked with final decision making and will proceed. All are encouraged to support Greg and his new Board; they are each thoughtful and capable, but can only succeed if we all encourage, contribute, participate, attend, and JOIN RMMRA for the future of Midget Racing in the Rockies.

Kyle Rayburn set Quick Time by over a Tenth second, started in the front row, and looked set to win the Main at Big Country Speedway on the Final night of 2009. However, Keith Rauch was not to be denied. Starting last, Keith passed Chris Sheil around the outside on lap 3, and set sail for a disappearing Rayburn. The two put on a great show, until finally, Keith threatened Kyle with the same outside pass, and then shot to the low groove down the front straight and into turn 1. Behind them, Prelim Winner Mike Heberling and Julee Jamison had another fine race, with Mike prevailing while Julee put Brian Postle into a points tie with Todd Henry, behind now 4-time Owner Champ, Tony Rossi. A very fine race and season; congrats to all, and thank you, race tracks!!...Boysen Loesch, Pres

While Keith Rauch and Tony Rossi again took victories at Big Country Speedway, Cheyenne, there was plenty of other excitement for race fans, Sat, Sep 5. All starts were fully inverted, but that didn’t stop Keith Rauch from defeating front row starter, Greg Schaefer, as well as Todd Plemons, Julee Jamison, and Mike Heberling in the first 10-lap heat. The second heat was marred by a nasty flip off the wall by Justin Mallo, after contact with Rossi and leader, Mike Boesel. Worry for Justin was quickly dispelled when he jumped out of his car, nearly before it stopped moving, and was replaced by respect for Boesel, who was offering his old car as a back-up to Mallo from the cockpit during the red flag. Boesel was concerned that he might somehow be as responsible for the crash, even though he was leading at the time, with Mallo and Rossi contesting second. He restarted third, only because of official (but surprising) computer record running order prior to the crash, not due to any penalty. The Main went for 30 laps, and Rauch made use of them all, with one yellow, to track down front row starter Chris Sheil, while Plemons, Kyle Rayburn, and particularly, Jamison, turned in stellar performances. Keith shown in victory, and Tony with second heat 1958 vintage trophy from the Jim LaManna collection. Thanks to all; we resume in Pueblo next Sat.

Petauro Racing Took RMMRA honors again at Colorado National Speedway Aug 29, with Keith Rauch driving, Mark Matejka wrenching, and Frank Peterson, owner and guiding light. The three, shown here, have individually been involved in dozens of Championships over decades, in and out of RMMRA, and together, demonstrate the elements needed for success in motor sports: Talent, Skill, and Resource, in that order. Congratulations Petauro, and many more.
Rory and Jenn Mallo brought Cory Mallo's neat new power plant, one of Chris Sheil, always impressive, made an exciting run back up to third after spinning at mid-race. Mike Boesel led for the first third from the front row after purchasing a new car from Bobby Seals just hours before the race. We will miss Bobby and Kelly Seals, who move on to dirt late models, and driver, Mike Marfia. Best of Luck!
Rory and Jenn Mallo brought Cory Mallo's neat new power plant, the country's very first customer EcoTec Chevy motor from Revolution Racing, for all to see. It stole a bit of the thunder from the beautiful Vintage Racing iron also on display at the night's Race of Champions, featuring CVOR cars and The Colorado Motor Sports Hall of Fame. Old and New in a entertaining mix!

Rossi and Team celebrated Tony's Birthday with a Win Sat, Aug 22 at I-25 Speedway, Pueblo. Tony controlled the race with his Spike/Mopar after taking the lead on lap one and was uncatchable, as past Champions, Keith Rauch and Chris Sheil gave chase through twenty fast laps and a lap 3 red flag. Two engines were exploded, but the only injuries were to pride and car count.

Julee Jamison led the RMMRA contingent at the CornHusker Challenge scoring 73 club points to Keith Rauch’s 69 and Brian Postle’s 62. Jamison’s best showing was the second night of two at the very fast Junction Raceway in McCool Junction, NE where she qualified for the main after starting 10th in the semi, and then ran from 23rd starting position to a 15th place finish, …probably passing more cars than the rest of the starters combined! Julee and Brian ran the entire Midget Week of Money, the only RMMRA cars to do so. Both ran strong through the Belleville Midget Nationals Finals, with Brian 6th in the Semi-Main and Julee flipping but restarting, after they ran 7th and 10th respectively in the delayed Fri Main Event. Congratulations to Julee and the Jamison crew on a fine showing, as well as to Brian Postle and all 40-some participants who made the CornHusker a successful and entertaining series.
Keith Rauch finished RMMRA's dirt season as he started it, by winning in convincing style over a closing Tony Rossi and a fast Brian Postle as RMMRA returned to I-76 Speedway following the Midget Week of Money. Rauch started last in an inverted field with Postle jumping out to a commanding lead from the middle. Brian held strong until the track dried and three yellows pulled the competition forward; Tony recovered from a spin early. RMMRA was part of I-76's enjoyable Fan Appreciation night, contributing tees and RMMRA hats furnished by Ron Rossi (see the Photos tab for more pics ). Thanks to all as we head into the final 5 races of the season, back on pavement and starting Aug 22 at I-25 Speedway, Pueblo.

Keith Rauch won the 25-lap A-Feature at I-76 Speedway Ft. Morgan, CO, on July 18, picking up his 39th RMMRA win. This was Keith’s 8th career win at I-76 during his 20 year career. Starting in the 4th spot of the fourteen car field, Rauch held off Todd Plemons, Tony Rossi, Chris Sheil, and Josh Lakatos who raced from the back.
Keith picked up his 4th A-Feature win of 2009, and 42nd career win as he continues to climb the All-Time Feature wins ladder, passing Dave Strickland, Roy Leslie & Jim LaManna, all former RMMRA Champions, this season. Rauch has two RMMRA Championionships from 1993 & 2000, and is leading the RMMRA points.
Nice to have Colo. Springs driver Ryan Oerter back running for his first time since 2003.
The RMMRA takes to the road for the next three shows, as we run at Rising City, Neb. & McCool Junction, Neb., with the POWRi series next week, Mon-Tue-Wed, Jul 27-28-29.
Our next Colo. show will be August 8, at I-76 in Ft. Morgan, on Fan Appreciation Night with the CVOR vintage cars and drivers. Be there to support RMMRA, I-76 Speedway, and Midget racing on dirt!! --- Thanks to Gary Martelon

Chris Sheil prevailed over Keith Rauch, rain, and a last lap oil leak that had him spinning smoking tires to the finish at I-25 Speedway, Pueblo on July 4. Rauch, who carried the nation's colors for RMMRA in the Independence Day celebration which opened the show, made a move to the outside that wasn't quite enough, but had everyone on their feet at the end of 25 laps. The beautifully prepared, painted, and lettered Midgets, driven by Chris and Keith and owned by Mike Chrisinger and Frank Peterson, maintain the long RMMRA tradition of exceptional race car workmanship which makes us proud to see and race with. Another impressive performance was turned in by Rookie but IMCA Champ, Mike Boesel, and by veteran Mike Heberling, in another immaculate racecar, who finished a strong fifth. Another fine show by all, and appreciated by the full house of race fans. Remember, RMMRA returns to the Dirt on July 18 at I-76, and then on to the CornHusker Challenge for three tremendous nights with POWR-i July 27-28-29, plus non-points races the Sat prior and Belleville following, then again at I-76 on Aug 8 !! points posted 7-10

Need help with your Midget racer? Bring it to the track; our expert staff of Champions will assist you, as they did Justin Mallo and crew Sat at Big Country Speedway in Cheyenne. Keith and Tony pitched in, and showed their sportsmanship, as they always do. All three then went out and ran another impressive 20-lap all green Main, with Keith prevailing from the back row. It was a fun, competitive race day, and RMMRA is proud of its drivers and crews.
I-25 Speedway, Pueblo and the RMMRA Midgets promise a big Fireworks display, on and off the track, next Sat the Fourth of July. Join us in the pits or in the stands Having Fun - Racing Midgets. Pit gate at Noon; Hot Laps throughout afternoon; Qualifying about 4; Racing at 5:30

Tony Rossi roared to an over-due win, Justin Mallo roared into the lead from a mid-field start with outside passing, and the crowd roared their loudest approval of the night after 20 laps of green-flag RMMRA Midget racing, Sat, Jun 20, at Colorado National Speedway. More cars, and we could own the place. Upon returning to CNS after a year away, we found a much improved race format, although no time trials, and a friendly staff which made for an enjoyable “home town” race night. Rossi swept by winning the Qualifying Race, but remains third in points behind Keith Rauch and New Mexico’s Mike Marfia in the Seals’ USA Stealth. They’ll all be at Big Country Speedway in Cheyenne this weekend to continue a very exciting pavement series,...will you?

KEITH RAUCH picks up 40th Colo. Feature win
Keith Rauch picks up his fortieth Colo. Feature win on June 13, 2009 at I-25 Speedway in Pueblo, Co. Rauch passed Jim LaManna, and Roy Leslie to take over eighth on the All-Time Feature win list three behind Johnnie Tolan ( 43 ). Rauch has thirty-seven career RMMRA Feature wins, two AIMS wins, and one USAC Feature win in Colorado. This was Keith's second win of the season after winning the season opener, May 2 at I-76 Speedway in Ft. Morgan, driving the # 71 Todd Henry car.
Rauch’s car owner, Frank Peterson, picked up his sixteenth career win as an owner, fourteen under the Petauro Racing banner. Peterson’s last win as an owner was on Sept. 1, 1991.
Congratulations to Frank & Keith--
Gary Martelon RMMRA Historian
Twelve teams checked at in the I-25 gate, but after two engine failures and contact with the wall by Greg Schaefer in the Todd Henry car during Heats, nine started the Main. Some of the DNS cars may not be ready for CNS next week, so we need all the cars we can possibly muster to fulfill our committment. "Thanks and Good Job" to all in Pueblo, especially new-comers Mike Crissinger for driver Chris Sheil with a beautiful new car, Mike Boesel who ran very strong all night, Brian Postle in a fast ex-Bill Ray car, and Bobby Seals from New Mexico with Mike Marfia driving and threatening to steal the show until a mag failure. The second of four pavement races in a row follows at CNS, then Cheyenne, and back to Pueblo for July 4. See you there!

OK, so it isn't always sunny in New Mexico or in Colorado, and we lost two of the last three races to rain. What we got in was pretty darn good and we did complete Heats at I-76 May 30. All Members in attendance receive 5 points for the HHS race #2 on Sat, if they choose to count that race, and all will receive 5 points plus actual Heat Race points for race #4 at I-76. Keith Rauch leads the points with a Main Event win but Tony Rossi is close, and the season is just beginning, especially since we count the best 15 of scheduled 18 races.
In Albuquerque, Luke Icke set the pace for Colorado drivers, winning his heat and starting in the front row, but was unable to stop a hooked-up RJ Johnson from Phoenix, even with a late race yellow to regroup.
Upon returning to home turf, fast, clean, and exciting heats were won by Todd Plemons and by Josh Lakatos who came from the back. The stage was set for a thriller 15-car Main, the most cars at home in several years, and then it rained. Twice.
We will resume Jun 13, this time on Pavement, as RMMRA continues to contest an all-around dirt track/paved track/short and long track Championship with the same combo cars using full race Midget engines...unique in the sport and well worth fan and racer support! Next Up: I-25 Speedway, Pueblo, CO Jun 13, followed by CNS, Cheyenne, and Pueblo again on July 4 with Fireworks.

Keith Rauch won RMMRA's Opening night at I-76 Speedway on May 2. Spring weather, a racy dirt surface, and Keith in the Winner's Circle is becoming a tradition for our Opening Night, and continued with the third I-76 win in a row for Rauch in the Todd Henry car, with wrenching by Mark Matejka. Visitors and Members from Salina, Skip Mattison for Chris Sheil, from Albuquerque, Bobby and Kelly Seals for Mike and Robert Marfia, and from Cheyenne, Rory and Jenn Mallo for sons, Justin and Cory, all added greatly to a successful program. Traveling against the weather; Thanks, all!

LOWER COST ADDITIONAL ENGINES have been approved for RMMRA The Fontana Rhino Midget engine with restrictions as submitted, has been approved, as have Other Similar Versions which would be even less expensive and which can be built by individuals. It is the express intent of these changes to allow members and prospective members lower cost engine alternatives competitive with, but not superior to, existing engines. The new race engine alternatives are RPM and INTAKE restricted with STEEL RODS only, and use SPEC cylinder HEADS with INCREASED displacements. Our expectation is that the home-built versions of these engines could cost well under $15000, and that all would be more reliable with longer service duty life than current high rev / high dollar motors. There are four engine blocks which fit into this new alternative: Rodeck and Fontana aluminum, and the Kansas Racing Products iron which is available for either the Spec aluminum Fontana/ChevII-Mercruiser-Pontiac iron heads or for the Spec aluminum Brodix SBC head, and finally, the GM/Mercury Marine iron block. Stock Block OEM engines, as approved in 2007, are also available options. Note: rotary intake air valve systems have also been DISallowed. For full rule text, click on Newsletter button (archive back). Interested racers are encouraged to call or e-mail RMMRA for points of contact, approx costs, etc on components.
